According to the saying, it takes a village to raise a child. Unfortunately very, very few people have a village materialise to assist them! Indeed, most people end up struggling along without the support they need and deserve.

Every mother, parent and person is deserving of care. Whether you are experiencing a challenging pregnancy, navigating baby loss or termination of pregnancy, preparing for baby's arrival, bringing your baby home from NICU, recovering from a challenging birth, juggling multiples or finally taking a breath after the intense early years of parenting, I can support you.

As a full spectrum doula, my care provides you with the in home hands on support, nurturing, knowledge and scheduled, protected rest time you need to recouperate physically, recalibrate mentally and be as well as you possibly can.

Doula support during postpartum may be of particular benefit to you if you

  • Are living away from those who would ideally be your primary support networks, such as family or close friends;
  • Find your local support networks are not able or willing to give you the practical assistance and non-judgemental emotional support you need to help you find your own way in parenting;
  • Are expecting twins, triplets or higher order multiples;
  • Experience a difficult pregnancy and/or birth;
  • You, your co-parent, baby or older child have a disability or chronic health condition;
  • Have limited experience with babies, and want someone who can both reassure you as to what is and isn't normal when it comes to baby sleep, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery and more;
  • Will be doing the majority of care alone, for example if you are a single or solo parent, or if your partner works long hours, is away often, has an upcoming deployment, etc.
  • Value alone time or know you don't do well on broken sleep, and are nervous about managing the 24/7 needs of a baby;
  • Have the demands of an older sibling (or siblings) to contend with, and know that extra hands on deck would be useful;
  • Have found a previous postpartum experience mentally and/or physically challenging.

Support is what enables you to enjoy, rather than endure, your parenthood.

Doula care is beneficial for partners and key support people too. It offers an independent sounding board for your own concerns, and the reassurance that the people you love most are in safe hands while you take time out to rest yourself, or once you return to work.

As your doula, I can offer you so much more than company. My home visits can include any combination of the following

  • Emotional support as you transition to your new role as a parent (or a newly minted parent of two, three, four or more);
  • Specialised birth debriefing;
  • Cooking your preferred home cooked meals and snacks;
  • Breastfeeding and holistic sleep support
  • Mentoring as you practice baby care skills, for example bathing, nappying, swaddling, using baby carriers or car capsules;
  • Warm oil relaxation massage;
  • Holding your baby so you can have a bath, wash your hair, eat with two hands, spend valuable uninterrupted time with your older child(ren), rest or catch up on sleep;
  • Administrative support, for example running errands, completing paperwork and forms, ordering supplies, liaising with health practitioners, booking appointments;
  • Support to attend appointments (e.g. pelvic floor physiotherapy), either as an advocate or ally, or simply to care for your baby so you can concentrate on what is being said and get the healthcare you need;
  • Helping you connect in with other local parent support professionals, helpful services and social groups;
  • Assistance with care of older siblings;
  • Assistance with household tasks and light cleaning, such as laundry, dishes, changing bedsheets, tidying up or vacuuming.
